Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers to the most common questions families have when exploring non-medical companionship and support.
What do you do β and how is this different from home health?
Out & About Senior Services provides non-medical companionship and practical day-to-day support for older adults living independently.
Services include help with appointments and transportation, errands, social outings, light household tasks, simple meal prep, organizing, and regular check-ins. Visits are active and supportive, focused on helping with everyday life β not just keeping someone company.
We are not a home health or medical agency and do not provide medical care or hands-on personal care. Our role is to support daily living and provide a reliable presence when clinical care isnβt needed.
Who is a good fit for your services?
Our services are a good fit for older adults who are mostly independent but would benefit from extra support, companionship, or reassurance in their day-to-day life.
- Live independently but donβt want to do everything alone
- Feel more isolated, cautious, or overwhelmed than they used to
- Need help getting to appointments, running errands, or getting out of the house
- Feel more confident and comfortable with a familiar, reliable person nearby
- Have family members who would feel better with regular check-ins or extra support β even if the client doesnβt feel they βneed helpβ yet
- Do not require medical care or hands-on personal care
If someone needs hands-on personal care or medical support, weβre happy to help families think through other care options that may be a better fit.
What does a typical visit look like?
Every visit is guided by the clientβs needs and preferences.
Some visits are more active, while others are quieter and focused on companionship and presence. Thereβs no set agenda β the pace and focus are shaped by what feels most helpful and comfortable for the client that day.
Do you help with laundry or household tasks?
Yes. We offer light, non-medical household support such as laundry, simple meal prep, light tidying, or organizing small areas.
Thereβs never an expectation for the client to participate, and we donβt provide heavy cleaning or personal care.
Do you help with personal care, such as incontinence or lifting?
No. Out & About Senior Services does not provide hands-on personal care.
This includes assistance with bathing, toileting, incontinence care, or lifting and transferring. These needs are best supported by medical or personal care providers.
We focus on non-medical companionship and day-to-day support, and weβre always happy to help families think through what kind of care may be the best fit if needs change.
Are you an agency?
Out & About Senior Services is a small, locally owned business, not a large agency.
Many agencies operate with rotating caregivers and changing schedules. Our model is different. We prioritize consistency, familiarity, and attentive support, so clients arenβt regularly meeting new faces and families know what to expect.
Our focus is on dependable, thoughtful care that centers the clientβs comfort and well-being β not a high-volume or rotating-caregiver approach.
Do you offer transportation and stay during appointments?
Yes. Transportation is included as part of many services β not just medical appointments.
We provide support for things like errands, social outings, activities, and getting out into the community, as well as appointments. When transportation is part of a visit, support is provided from pick-up to return home so time together is never rushed or fragmented.
This allows clients to feel supported, comfortable, and confident wherever the visit takes place.
Where do you provide services?
Out & About Senior Services provides support in the Lenexa, Kansas area and surrounding communities.
Services are generally offered within a reasonable driving distance to ensure reliable scheduling and consistency. If youβre unsure whether your location is within our service area, just reach out and weβll be happy to confirm.
How does it work?
First, we connect by phone or message to make sure services are a good fit and to answer initial questions.
The first visit is used to get to know the client, review any needed paperwork, and make sure everyone feels comfortable moving forward. This helps us understand needs, preferences, and expectations from the start.
After that, visits are scheduled based on what works best for the client and family β whether ongoing or occasional.
